TESOL announces the online debut of two TESOL Leadership Development Certificate Program (LDCP) workshops. Part of LDCP Strand 1, the workshops are designed for members who are interested in learning more about the association and in developing their skills as leaders of the association and its affiliates. Developed by TESOL’s board of directors, the LDCP is open to all TESOL members. Participants must be members of TESOL

The Social Responsibility Interest Section (SRIS) joins TESOL as its 21st interest section. SRIS comprises TESOL members who are actively engaged in integrating language teaching with social responsibility, world citizenship, and an awareness of global issues such as peace, human rights, and the environment. The IS aims to promote social responsibility within the TESOL profession and to advance social equity, respect for differences, and multicultural understanding through education. To join SRIS as a primary member or to sign up for the e-list and/or e-newsletter, log on to the TESOL Web site and select “My Communities” in the member toolbox.

IATEFL Scholarships Newsflash!

6 August 2010

There are two new scholarships funded by our dear SIGs: the Leadership and Management Scholarship and the BESIG Facilitator Scholarship; they require applicants to be speakers at conference.

There are five new scholarships funded by Cambridge ESOL offering opportunities for professionals or post-graduates working in the areas of EL teaching, language assessment, teacher training, EAP, and state education to attend conference without the requirement of giving a paper.

Improved awards are to be found in the Frank Bell IATEFL Scholarship as well as in IATEFL’s own Ray Tongue and WR Lee Scholarships.

Occasionally and surprisingly some scholarships have too few applicants. This happened last year with the Trinity College London Scholarships which were publicised rather late and with the Ray Tongue and WR Lee Scholarships where the value of the awards had eroded over time. It’s well worth while taking another look at these scholarships.

Find full information at www.iatefl.org/scholarships and apply, using a brand new and convenient online application form, by 1st September 2010.

IATEFL Conference

The IATEFL Conference and Exhibition is a major international conference which attracts large numbers of language teaching professionals from around the world.

TESOLANZ was represented at IATEFL China in 2002 and 2004 by Marty Pilott and in Exeter 2008 by Carol Griffiths. Here is Carol's report.
